Lake & City Homes Realty new logo
Oh my Lord in heaven! I must be the most anal-retentive small business owner on the face of the planet! Every time I think I’m happy with my new logo, I seem to find yet another reason to change it. Three printers and two designers later (and after spending an ungodly amount of money) I think I’m finally satisfied, although the amount of white space in my logo is still somewhat unsettling to me. Ugh! You see? There I go again. I’m never satisfied. But seriously, there is a lot of white space and nothing can really be done to reduce it without adding a bunch of clutter. And at the same time there isn’t enough white space to do anything useful such as incorporating the word “Realty” into it (which would be nice since it is part of my company name). In any case, I am declaring here and now that I am once and for all truly finished with this logo design stuff!! I know my brand is important but this is ridiculous! I’ve been at it for over two months now. It’s getting truly embarrassing whenver clients (or anyone else for that matter) ask me for a business card — up until now all I’ve been able to do is drone on and on about how I only have this or that completely lame card to give them and why it is not the correct card because of this or that mistake or oversight on the part of this or that person or company. Very boring to hear and even more annoying to repeatedly recount but if you’re a perfectionist like me, you can’t stand the idea of giving someone a product that doesn’t truly represent your or your brand. Call me crazy. All I know is that I’ve been driving myself (and everyone else!) crazy with this nonsense. Anyway, next Monday the latest batch of newly redesigned new business cards will finally be printed (and hopefully delivered on time) this time using VistaPrint which my good buddy Todd Harth of Body Harmony recommended. They are a full 50% cheaper than the good folks over at SprintPrint and hopefully they will actually print everything according to my specs. So that’s when I think I’ll finally breathe a sigh of relief (thinking positive here, folks!). In the meantime, drop me a line and let me know what you think of the new logo! Today was especially exciting because I finally got to see (in person!) my company’s new yard signs and open house signs! They were printed and assembled by the excellent crew at Whopping Big Signs, a division of Magellan Mapping located in Waunakee, WI.
I’m especially pleased with the three-dimensionality of the key in the logo. And I think the ampersand my designer chose really complements the graphic of the key particularly well. I’m also pleased with the color choices I made which match my company’s website. I’m confident that will help with brand recognition and brand consistency as I begin to list more and more properties in the Madison WI real estate market.

Just a quick update that I’ve added a few new shortcut searches to LakeAndCityHomes.com:
All Lakefront Homes quickly shows you all the homes and condos for sale on Madison’s four lakes: Lake Mendota, Lake Monona, Lake Waubesa and Lake Kegonsa. (I also threw in Lake Wingra and the Yahara River, although properties are rarely ever available on those two bodies of water.) In addition I created “quick searches” (or search snippets) for each of these lakes which you can access under “Popular Searches” in the right sidebar on every page of my site.
Next, I created a search snippet for Downtown Condos in Madison, WI. I also threw in one for all Madison WI Condos Under $200K for good measure. While it’s true Madison’s got a lot of fancy condos and expensive penthouse properties for sale, we’ve also got major condo affordability, especially for a city that has so much going for it. There are currently 642 condos for sale in Madison alone for under $200K! And the average price for a condo in Madison rose slightly from 2007 to just over $196K in 2008.
